A new adventure

So, as many of you know, John and I have been ACCEPTED into the program to start building our very own home! We are so very, very excited to get started. We will most likely be starting some building classes at the end of this week or the beginning of the following week. These are basically just to teach us basic skills that will help us with the construction of our house. Since fall is fast approaching, we won't be required to put in our sub-floors, which the other groups ahead of us are going to have to do. I'm kind of glad, even though it will come out of our budget, that we won't have to do that work ourselves. With me being 8 months pregnant, there are certain things they won't allow me to do, such as do any roofing on our house. I will likely be doing other things while the other members of the group do this. Once I have the baby, they will work with us so that we can still get enough hours each week to fulfill our 35 required hours. We can have friends and family members help us so this will be awesome. We've already chosen our lot and house plan. Our house will sit on over a third of an acre! We are really excited about that. The dogs will have a nice yard to run around in. There is a brand new elementary right behind our house as well as a brand new church! The house plan is great! It's really open, which we love. The upstairs has 2 bathrooms, a nice master bedroom with 2 closets (we'll need them ha ha), 2 smaller bedrooms (one for Carter and one to use as an office for now). Then the basement has enough room for at least 2 bedrooms, a large family room and is plumbed for a bathroom. It also has a large cold storage room which I'm really excited about. Maybe next summer I'll have a garden and do some canning...maybe ;) Even though it is going to be so much work, we are so grateful and excited for the opportunity to build our own home!!! We feel blessed to have been chosen and are going to make every effort to keep everyone informed on the little things that happen day to day while we are building. I will try to keep an updated picture blog going as well so everyone can see our progress. Keep checking back for more details!

It's been a year since I last posted!

OK, so when I decided to do a blog, I thought I'd be a lot more up to date on things...but that's just me, scatter-brained and unorganized ha ha. Well, since we are getting ready to have a baby, I decided it'd be a great time to post and keep posting to keep everyone updated on what's going on. Well, I guess I'll start with where we're living and what we're up to. In June, we decided to move back in with John's parents...Oh the joys BUT it's helping us save up money and get all the things we need for the baby. All-in-all, it's a blessing and I'm thankful that they let us live here. John is still working at Inovar and he loves his job! I'm so glad that he works at a place that he enjoys going to everyday instead of dreads. I went to school summer semester since I knew I wasn't going to go in the fall. I took 2-4 week classes and got an A- out of both of them. I'm pretty proud of myself :) I plan on applying for the teaching program this fall and starting that new adventure in the Spring. I am still working at Wilson Elementary in the After School Club program and will be starting again on Monday. I'm super excited! It's such a great job and it's giving me plenty of experience for when I actually start teaching. I wasn't planning on working Fall semester but the principal of the school basically begged me to come back and told me she'd give me all the time I'd need off if I only came back so I agreed :) She is great and I love working with her. Well, I am 30 1/2 weeks along with baby Carter and we are SOOOOOOOOO excited to add him to our little family. We have most the things we will need for him when he gets here and we are excited...did I mention we're EXCITED?? He he. He is such a wiggly baby! There are very few times throughout the day when I can't feel him kicking, punching, or rolling around in my belly and I love that reassurance :D John is such a doll when it comes to the baby. He loves to feel him move and put his head on my belly. He loves the baby just as much as I do and he's going to be such an amazing daddy!!! In my last post, I talked about applying to build a house. We didn't get accepted that time, but we have recently re-applied and are just waiting to hear back from them and are hoping to by the end of the week! If we get accepted, we will continue to live with John's parents until the house is built which is ok with me. We will be able to save up enough money to get all the things we need for a new house. It usually takes about 7 months to build the house, so we'd hope to move in by April. After the house is built, we plan on taking a nice, relaxing vacation to Florida and the Bahamas! We are really excited since we've never really been on a big vacation as a couple. This will be our first outing and we can't wait! Since my last post, we've also added another member to our family. That's right...another dog! We inherited a little black mutt from my sister Tiffany named Mo. He is the strangest mix I've EVER heard of but he's actually pretty cute. He is a Chihuahua, Doxen, Border Collie mix...don't ask me how that works, because I have no idea. He is crazy and fun and we like having him around...most of the time ;) Max likes having a friend anyway. Well, I think that about covers it for right now, but I plan on keeping this a lot more up to date than I have in the past. Thanks for reading :D
